A quite simply delightlful cheese and previous winner of the Champions of Cheese award, this minimum 10 month aged edam is wonderfully sweet on the palate with musings of a nutty aftertaste. Not to be confused with the flavourless block cheese found at most New Zealand supermarkets, this edam is full of flavour and will surprise. A hard, dryer cheese, the very old edam from Mahoe is a real crowd pleaser and will disappear quickly off your next cheese platter.
Mahoe Farmhouse cheeses have been made by the Rosevear family since 1986. Situated a short distance outside Kerikeri in the far north of New Zealand's North Island, the milk for their beautiful cheeses is gleaned from their own small cattle herd on site. The cheese is then hand made by the family at their on site dairy, where they produce some of the best examples of New Zealand artisan cheese.
Ideal for pairing with a fruity paste, condiment, honey comb, a slice of green apple or pear, walnuts or almonds. Serve on baguette, oat cakes or crackers, or simply enjoy by itself.
We recommend a wine match of a sweeter white wine (Pinot Gris, Riesling, or sticky - port, sauternes etc) or a fruity Pinot Noir.
